• Gang sweep targets Bloods clique in Compton - Los Angeles Times: The issue of black street gangs can be directly traced and related to consumerism from start to finish. Black americans are descendants of the commodity of slaves sourced from different parts of the world (at the beginning of globalization) and even after the abolition of slavery have not managed to fully recover from the echoes of slavery as the white majority originally had more consumer power and inherently racist leanings so even though there is equal oppurtinity on paper there is not in real day to day life (a political theorist mentioned in liberlaism lectures has already said this but i cant remember who), therefore the divide between poor black communities and the rest of america has continued. The emergance of a new commodity - crack (made with cocaine sourced from south america), created a new market in the ghettos populated by blacks and produced the cycle of crime that plagues urban areas of america today. There are some interesting side-effects from this which i will tag.
